ECOLN Conference 2023
Acknowledgement of Country
We believe it is important for nature kindergarten programs to acknowledge country and aim to form strong relationships with First Nations peoples. Our Conference is held on the traditional lands of the Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin Nations. The Conference program includes a Smoking Ceremony and formal Welcome to Country from the Boon Wurrung Foundation.

Nature Play Week 2016 Launch
In April 2016 we attended an inspiring launch, followed by lunch and a workshop to celebrate nature play around Victoria and beyond at the beautiful Malmsbury Botanical Garden.
We heard from keynote speaker Alison Lester, one of Australia’s most beloved creators of children’s books, on children and our need for interaction with the natural world. It was a chance to exchange ideas with children, students, and educators. On offer were a range of outdoor learning opportunities on how to use your local parks, gardens and reserves as a fertile ground to inspire healthy and active lifestyles and encourage children’s imaginative play. Seminar Royal Botanic Gardens CranbourneOutdoor learning is a rapidly growing model in early childhood settings. The Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne held a seminar in April 2016 to hear what is so compelling about this model and what is happening throughout Australia and internationally with Sue Elliott. The seminar also heard from ECOLN member Doug Fargher, and has a chance to explore RBG Cranbourne to find out what is required of a setting and how to deal with risks in the bush.
